Walt Disney's Dumbo was released on October 23,1941.
To celebrate our love for the film we asked our resident Dumbo expert C.J. to lay down some Disney knowledge for us. She came up with ten fascinating facts that many people don't realize about Walt Disney's fourth animated film.

Ten Fascinating Facts About Dumbo:
- Dumbo held a special place in Walt Disney's heart. It was his favorite Disney movie!
- Helen Aberson & Harold Pearl's story "Dumbo" which later became a book was the inspiration for the film.
- Dumbo contains one of the first Disney Easter Eggs! "WDP Circus" the name of the circus in the film refers to "Walt Disney Productions".
- Dumbo is the only lead character in a Disney film to not speak. His mother only speaks one time in the entire film!
- Watercolors were used to create the backgrounds for Dumbo. Watercolors were used as a cost saving method because Dumbo had a strict budget.
- In 2017 Dumbo was selected for preservation into the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
- The film won the Best Original Music Score at the 1941’s Academy Awards.
- TIME magazine was going to honor Dumbo as its cover "Mammal of the Year", but Dumbo was replaced when Pearl Harbor was attacked in December 1941.
- Dumbo The Flying Elephant ride can be found at five Disney parks: Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Tokyo Disney.
- Dumbo's run time is 64 minutes making it one of the shortest Disney films.

Disney's live action version of of the beloved 1941 film will be released on March 29,2019. Following the success of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and The Jungle Book, Disney has found that rebooting their animated classics into live-action films is cultivating an entire new generation of fans. We are tried and true Dumbo fans here at Picturing Disney. We will always love the original film yet we are excited to experience Tim Burton's live action version. March can't get here soon enough!

We love Dumbo! Such a wonderful classic! The Dumbo ride at Magic Kingdom is one of my daughter's faves, too!
