It's no surprise to us that young Descendants fans are passionate about the franchise. We get it! Here at Picturing Disney we have been loving the VK's (Villain Kids) for 5 years. The premiere is now cable tv's highest rated telecast in two years among kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14. Not since the premiere of Descendants 2 (7/21/17) has cable TV garnered such strong ratings among young demographics.
The Stats:
- Descendants 3 ranked #1 for the day in every demographic measured.
- Over 2.5 million adults watched along. 1.7 million in the important demo of W18-49 (Hi that's me!)
- In the DisneyNOW app, Descendants 3 is the highest viewed Disney Channel original movie in a single day.
- Descendants 3 became the #1 most social TV movie.
- Descendants 3 is the #1 TV show in the iTunes TV store.
- The soundtrack rose to #1 on the iTunes album and soundtrack charts.
- In just 5 days D3 music videos have more than 111 million viewers.
Non Spoiler Review:
Inspired by Disney villains, the franchise has captured the hearts of kids, tweens and fun loving parents around the world. What could be more intriguing than the teenage kids of infamous villains who are wrestling with their own demons? Have they inherited truly evil hearts or are they better people than their parents? Descendants 3 unfolds on "VK Day." Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay—(the VKs) cross the barrier and return to their birthplace, the Isle of the Lost. Like the previous 2 films, Descendants 3 champions diversity. It breaks down stereotypes and makes the audience think twice about judging a book by its cover. Shouldn't everyone have the opportunity to prove themselves and not be held to the sins of their parents? Of course the film has all the music and dancing we have become used to in a Kenny Ortega production.
The Descendants 3 is available now on DVD.
